Tooth replacements Tooth replacement is a way of treating missing teeth. Generally speaking, missing teeth need to be replaced. The exceptions to this are wisdom teeth, these do not need to be replaced.

Tooth deficiencies can have different anatomical, functional, biological, aesthetic and social consequences. Already a missing a tooth can also cause more changes to your teeth.

The loss of a grinding tooth is not perceived as a deficiency by many people, but the loss of teeth/groups of teeth can cause marked inability to chew, resulting in digestive dysfunction, speech and voice disorders.

What types of tooth replacement are known, what are the options for tooth replacement?

We distinguish between fixed (fixed) and removable dentures.

Fixed prosthesesare those that are placed in the mouth by the dentist using a special adhesive; they cannot be removed by the patient.

Removable dentures can be removed by the patient themselves, allowing them to clean them outside the mouth.

There are also implant prostheses/dental implants, artificial roots, which are surgically inserted into the jawbone.

Patients often come to our practice not knowing what options are available for replacing their teeth, so here are some of the most common terms that may be used.

Crowns: A crown is a fixed prosthesis that is fixed by the dentist to the previously polished tooth surface.

In form, function and aesthetics, it is perfectly similar to the original tooth.

This is most often necessary when the original tooth is so badly destroyed that it cannot be restored with a filling.

In terms of material, it can be metal, metallic ceramics (in common parlance, porcelain crowns), metal-free ceramics (glass ceramics, zirconia).

The price of porcelain crown depends on whether it is made of porcelain covered with metal or pure ceramic crown (metal-free ceramic).

Bridge: a bridge replacement is a dental prosthesis that replaces one or more teeth and is fixed by the dentist to the ground teeth that border the gap.

Depending on how the remaining tooth/pill is prepared, we distinguish between inlay anchored bridges. This procedure is used when the teeth have previously been filled, the patient’s oral hygiene is excellent and the aim is to save as much tooth material as possible. Very high aesthetic standards are achieved with this procedure.

Root-retained prosthesis: A root-retained prosthesis is a prosthesis that is inserted into the root of the tooth to complete the crown of the tooth, usually by placing a crown. It is used to fill in teeth that are missing a large amount of tooth material so that they can no longer support a crown on their own.
